To celebrate the third anniversary of Linksgespielt, fifteen left-handed playing musicians of various instruments - violins, viola, cellos, violone, electric guitar, digital piano, flute and trumpet - came together on International Left-Handers Day 2024.
For two days, we ate, rehearsed and exchanged our experiences on handedness, left-handed instruments and relearning instruments in Frankfurt am Main. Professional and amateur musicians from Dresden, Leipzig, Bochum, Karlsruhe, Neustadt, Vienna and Mexico City, among others, had traveled to the event. After the general meeting of Linksgespielt e. V. and a get-together over lunch, rehearsals began in small and larger ensembles.
Several radio and television teams came along to record interviews and musical impressions. So, articles in the Taunuszeitung, Frankfurter Rundschau, FAZ and Schwäbische Zeitung were joined by radio reports on hr 1, 3, 4 & info, Deutschlandfunk Kultur and Hessenschau as well as television appearances on hr Fernsehen and rtl Hessen.
The program concluded with a colourful concert evening to celebrate International Left-Handers Day on 13 August with solo and ensemble pieces from several centuries. The event was moderated by the performers themselves, giving the audience rare insights into left-handed people's lives and re-learning experiences. Neurologist Dr. med. Zübeyde Kök and violin maker Helen Layer, among others, provided expert explanations.
