August 13 - International Left-handers Day was established by former US soldier Dean Richard Campbell and will be celebrated for the 50th time this year.
Linksgespielt is taking part for the fifth time with a music-making and exchange meeting for left-handed professional and amateur musicians of various instruments.

For the first time our meeting will take place in Vienna. 10 left-handed musicians are joining us from different parts of Germany, Austria and Italy. What they all have in common is that they play their instruments “the other way round”: the left hand guides the violin bow, handles the lower keys of the clarinet, operates the valves of the trumpet and plays the high keys on the piano. Also the flute, saxophone, recorder, traverso, guitar, viola da gamba and double bass are performed left-handed.
Why? - find out at our public concert evening with ensemble music from different styles and eras. With personal stories and room for discussion, the musicians will provide insights into the world of left-handed music-making and draw attention to the importance of handedness in music and everyday life. Left-handedness is more than a biological characteristic; it shapes our view of the world and our interaction with the instrument. Let's celebrate this on International Left-handers Day!
